Andrew Nissenbaum

Andrew Nissenbaum is a currency trader, author, and the Founder and CEO of Macrofund. His forthcoming book, How Currency Markets Work (Wiley, April 2026), bridges the gap between how currency markets are taught and how they actually trade.

Stanley Druckenmiller, founder of Duquesne Capital Management, wrote of Nissenbaum: “Soros Fund Management took the extraordinary step of hiring Andrew Nissenbaum at the age of 22 because he possesses a knowledge of markets and trading flair unparalleled at his age to my knowledge.”

Nissenbaum served as Head of Macro Research at Soros Fund Management’s Quantum Fund and traded proprietary currency books at Bank of America, UBS, Deutsche Bank Securities, and Steinhardt Management. He held a seat on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. In 1998, his Hypothesis Macro Fund was ranked the #1 top-performing hedge fund globally, returning 58.40% through April 1998.

His career as a trading prodigy was profiled early on in the Wall Street Journal with “Wharton Whiz Scores Big in Futures Trading” in July 1995, the Financial Times with “Watch out Mr Soros?” in September 1995, the Nikkei Financial Daily with “A Prodigy Appears on Wall Street” in November 1995, and Futures Magazine with “Nissenbaum: Winning the Game” in April 1997.

Richard C. Marston, Professor of Finance Emeritus at Wharton, called Nissenbaum “one of my star students.” James Sweeney, Head of Economics for Global Fixed Income at BlackRock, described him as “a young trading prodigy” whose book “draws on deep institutional knowledge of market trading conventions which often remain hidden from standard textbooks.”

Nissenbaum holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics with concentrations in Finance and Statistics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was a guest lecturer and graduate student at the London School of Economics, where he lectured on the relationship between geopolitics and financial markets. He has also lectured for the JP Morgan Core Program.

He is the author of How Currency Markets Work: An Insider’s Guide to a System Driven by Geopolitics and Trader Psychology (Wiley, 2026), co-authored with Patrick Cullen.
