Andrew Nissenbaum
Founder and CEO
Andrew Nissenbaum is the Founder and CEO of Macrofund, where he focuses on how geopolitical and macroeconomic events impact financial markets. He has previously held prominent positions such as Head of Macro Research at Soros Fund Management’s Quantum Fund, Vice President of Foreign Exchange at Bank of America in London, and Investment Advisor and Chairman of the Board for the top-ranked Hypothesis Macro Fund LTD. His diverse roles in the finance industry also include a seat on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and proprietary trading positions at Union Bank of Switzerland, Deutsche Bank Securities, and Steinhardt Management.
As a proprietary currency trader for major banks, Andrew traded billions of dollars. His expertise spans emerging and frontier markets, with a focus on analyzing markets and geopolitical systems. His trading portfolio includes EUR, JPY, and US 30-year futures options, as well as equity and commodity volatility. He developed a model using the rate of change of the volatility curve to predict future price ranges. Recognized as a prodigy trader, Andrew has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Nikkei Financial Daily, and Futures Magazine.
Andrew holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with a concentration in Finance and Statistics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was also a guest lecturer and graduate student at the London School of Economics, where he lectured on the relationship between geopolitics and financial markets. His academic contributions include derivatives research for an independent member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee and lecturing on technical analysis for the JP Morgan Core Program.
Patrick Cullen
Geopolitical Research
Patrick Cullen is a Geopolitical Risk Analyst and an expert in international security studies, focusing on the role of non-state actors and hybrid warfare. He holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics. Cullen’s research interests include the use of coercion by non-state actors in the international system and emergent practices in hybrid warfare, involving coordinated use of sub-threshold military and non-military coercion.
He has managed international projects focusing on innovations in NGO participation in national fisheries protection and countering illegal fishing globally. Cullen has published extensively on security topics, contributing to books and peer-reviewed journals. His notable publications include the co-edited book Maritime Private Security (Routledge, 2012), and influential chapters in Intelligence Analysis in the Digital Age (Routledge, 2022) and Hybrid Warfare: Security and Asymmetric Conflict in International Relations (I.B. Tauris, 2021).
Cullen also serves as a Senior Researcher at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute. Previously, he worked as an Analyst at Eurasia Group, leading political risk consulting engagements for US defense and intelligence clients. He also held academic positions as a Research Fellow at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals, where he designed and taught MSc courses. He began his career as a Book Review Editor for the Millennium Journal of International Studies.
James Maloy

James Maloy is a seasoned macroeconomist with extensive experience in both academia and financial markets. He served as a Lecturer at Royal Holloway, University of London, and later joined the University of Pittsburgh, where he currently teaches macroeconomics, monetary theory, European economics, financial markets, and economic thought.
His research focuses on macroeconomic performance, political economy, and monetary policy. Maloy has conducted econometric analyses and experimental investigations on the effects of elections and central bank policies. These studies have provided valuable insights into the dynamic interplay between political events and economic performance. Maloy holds a PhD in Economics and an MSc in Economics with Distinction from Royal Holloway, University of London, and a BA in Economics cum laude from Washington and Jefferson College. His academic and professional journey underscores his deep commitment to advancing understanding in the field of macroeconomics.

Dave Leduc brings unparalleled energy and a unique perspective to Macrofund’s leadership team. Renowned for his achievements as a world champion in Lethwei, Dave’s transition into the corporate realm highlights his versatility and strategic mindset. As Chief Communications and Media Strategist, Dave focuses on public relations, developing communication strategies, managing brand image, and engaging with the public.
Dr. Gerald Sokol
Medical Research
Dr. Gerald Sokol is a practicing physician who specializes in medical oncology, radiation therapy, and clinical pharmacology. He holds an MD from Indiana University and an MS in Clinical Pharmacology from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, US Walter Reed. A Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, Dr. Sokol is board-certified in internal medicine, radiology, medical oncology, radiation therapy, and clinical pharmacology through Harvard Medical School.
He also holds a Certificate in Skin Cancer Radiation. Dr. Sokol has made significant contributions to cancer treatment, clinical trials, and pharmacology, authoring numerous peer-reviewed publications and advancing the understanding and treatment of various cancers. His work is widely recognized in the medical community, earning him multiple awards for medical research and patient care.
He has served as an Oncology Review Officer with the FDA for 23 years and is a Captain Reserve Officer in the US Navy. Additionally, Dr. Sokol has held academic appointments as an Associate Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Walter Reed. He continues to practice medicine while actively contributing to innovative research efforts.
